mattress recycling

A mattress is 100% recyclable, yet sadly only around 16% are actually recycled in the UK. The rest are incinerated or sent to landfill. That’s around 167,000 tonnes being sent to landfill each year, according to WRAP.

We have the solution

The Process

The process involves: -

  1. Receiving used mattresses from the relevant supplier. Storage is in a secure area with restricted access during unloading from lorries

  2. Transferring of mattresses to a stripping area. The stripping area has several revolving work stations/platforms that are large enough to seat a Queen size mattress at waist height. Operatives utilise the proper PPE and strip the mattress by hand and separate: -

    A. The outer covering

    B. The wading

    C. The foam

    D. The pocket springs

    E. The normal springs

    F. Polyfibre

  1. As and when the workstations have amassed sufficient of material A to F, the said material is then transported to specific bays for each different material type. These are called the loose bay sections

  2. Baling is carried out of all materials A to F, and when baled the material is then stored in specific bays for baled material

Disposal and our guarantee

Our business model is based on a zero land fill policy. We have markets for all of the finished bales and existing customers are ready to buy all our recycled material.

To achieve our goal of zero land fill, we have partners in: -

  1. The metal industry who purchase our ferrous material

  2. The cotton industry who utilise the high-grade cotton fabric and recycle to make new cotton goods, including bed sheets and clothing

  3. The farming industry who utilises the lower grade cotton for use in industrial cattle matting

  4. The building industry who uses the foam to manufacture wall insulation products

  5. The carpet industry who manufactures carpet underlay utilising our foam

  6. The car and upholstery industry who buy and recycle our Polyfibres to make new Polyfibres

This model works and will continue to work as costs continue to rise in every county in the World.
